Abstract

Weight loss occurs when energy expenditure exceeds dietary energy intake. Normal animals are able to offset any deficiency of intake by decreasing energy expenditure, slowing the rate of weight loss. This chapter provides a diagnostic algorithm for weight loss, and covers differential diagnoses and available diagnostic tests.
