Abstract
Effective assessment, treatment and prevention of pain in birds remains challenging. Knowledge of normal species-specific behaviour, as well as individual behavioural characteristics, is important, hence, owners are often best at detecting early signs of pain and assessing response to analgesia. Case examples: Fracture repair; Degenerative joint disease.
