Abstract

This presentation, originally scheduled to take place in Scottish region on 15th April 2020, covers everyday theatre protocols that can be used in first opinion or referral practice. The aim is to highlight best practice and how this can be achieved in a busy first opinion practice in a cost effective manner. Emma Boyce explores the patient’s journey from prep room to recovery, looking at theatre preparation, patient preparation and the role of the theatre nurse. Instrumentation, preparation and maintenance is also addressed, together with infection control in the theatre complex and how to maintain effective and economical best practice. Learning Objectives: Be able to demonstrate the best possible practice for patient prep for a range of surgical procedures; Demonstrate measures that can be put in place to ensure the practice has efficent infection control procedures.
