Hypersomatotropism is an endocrine disorder characterized by excess production of growth hormone (GH) in dogs and cats. This chapter discusses the synthesis, regulation and functions of GH, as well as its role in insulin resistance and diabetes mellitus. It explores the different aetiologies of hypersomatotropism in dogs and cats, including excess progesterone, genetic factors, and environmental contaminants. The clinical features, diagnosis, and differential diagnoses of hypersomatotropism are described, along with various treatment options such as hypophysectomy, medical therapy and radiotherapy. The prognosis and treatment outcomes are also discussed.
