Abstract
How often do we hear, or say, “this is just old age, there is nothing to do”? Of course, we cannot reverse the changes brought on by aging, but there are many things, often little, we can suggest, to make a big difference in the quality of life of our geriatric patients. This presentation, discusses the changes related to age, mainly on the brain and musculoskeletal system, and how we can assess and monitor quality of life. It goes on to address medical, nutritional and exercise management of old age, with a particular focus on pain management. We will see how complementary treatments can be incorporated in a tailored care plan, and simple tips to help pets in their own home. Thinking about their daily needs will show your clients you care about their aging pet, which is a great way to strengthen the bond with your clients.
