Peritoneal dialysis is used in progressive azotaemia or severe intractable uraemia, hyperkalaemia or other life-threatening electrolyte or acid-base disturbances, acute poisoning with substances that can be removed by dialysis, and life-threatening pulmonary oedema or iatrogenic fluid overload.
