Abstract

Ketoacidosis occurs when there is excessive production and accumulation of ketoacids within the circulation. When excessive amounts accumulate they overwhelm the buffering capacity of the body and a metabolic acidosis and acidaemia develop. This chapter looks at aetiology, clinical features, history and physical examination, diagnosis and treatment.
