An inherited illness, based on genotype, is suspected when multiple family members are affected or a breed predisposition is noted beyond its popularity or what is seen in the general population. This chapter examines inherited glomerulopathies, inherited nephropathies, inherited tubular disorders, lower urinary tract disorders, DNA testing and genetic counselling.
