BSAVA Small Animal Formulary Part A: Canine and Feline
The BSAVA Small Animal Formulary remains one of the most trusted and widely used resources in small animal practice, helping clinicians make safe, evidence-based decisions every day. This Part A 12th edition covering cats and dogs continues to evolve with veterinary medicine. It includes new monographs on drugs such as citalopram, enflicoxib, ilunocitinib and venlafaxine, reflecting the expanding range of therapeutic options available to our patients. The addition of new appendices – including a seizure algorithm, detailed guidance on supplements and nutraceuticals, and expanded information on contrast agents – enhances its practical value in daily case management. The Formulary continues to embody what the BSAVA stands for – scientific rigour, clinical relevance, and a commitment to improving animal welfare.

BSAVA Small Animal Formulary Part B: Exotic Pets
The 12th edition of the BSAVA Small Animal Formulary: Exotic Pets continues to set the standard for responsible prescribing in the growing and diverse field of exotic animal medicine. The clinical management of these species remains both rewarding and challenging. Veterinary practitioners are faced with a diverse range of taxa, each with distinct anatomical, physiological and metabolic characteristics. Although knowledge continues to grow rapidly, there remains a shortage of robust pharmacological studies and controlled clinical trials for many drugs used in exotic pet medicine. This edition introduces new monographs, including afoxolaner, atorvastatin, and danofloxacin, broadening the therapeutic scope for an ever-wider range of species. A new appendix on barium contrast media and the addition of emergency doses on the inside front cover provide valuable quick-reference support for clinicians in urgent situations. Another key feature is new client information leaflets covering routes of administration — inhalational, injectable, oral, topical ear, and topical eye — helping practitioners communicate clearly with owners and ensure safe home care for these unique patients. This new edition will be an indispensable guide in your day-to-day work with exotic species.

BSAVA/SAMSoc Guide to Responsible Use of Antibacterials: PROTECT ME
Please note. The new version of the BSAVA/SAMSoc Guide to Responsible Use of Antibiotics: PROTECT ME is now available here.
Antibacterial use (both appropriate and inappropriate) imposes a powerful selection pressure on bacteria and is the primary driver of antibacterial resistance. Eliminating unnecessary use in people and animals is, therefore, essential to safeguard this invaluable resource. A key component in the fight against AMR is the adoption of antibacterial stewardship initiatives in both human and animal healthcare. PROTECT was first launched in 2012 as a joint initiative by SAMSoc (the Small Animal Medicine Society) and the BSAVA. BSAVA and SAMSoc have worked together to develop an updated ‘PROTECT ME’ poster and this supporting information is freely available to the veterinary profession. The appendices are designed to be used in conjunction with the poster.
PDFs of the NEW 2023 version of the PROTECT ME poster, together with the rabbit PROTECT poster, are available with the PROTECT ME chapter and BSAVA members can request printed copies for their practice. A form to support client communication where no antibiotic is required has also been developed. Printed ‘non prescription‘ pads are available from the BSAVA shop.
New version now available.

BSAVA/SAMSoc Guide to Responsible Use of Antibiotics: PROTECT ME (2024)
Antibiotic use (both appropriate and inappropriate) imposes a powerful selection pressure on bacteria and is the primary driver of antibiotic resistance. Eliminating unnecessary use in humans and animals is, therefore, essential to safeguard this invaluable resource. A key component in the fight against antibiotic resistance is the adoption of antibiotic stewardship initiatives in both human and animal healthcare. PROTECT was first launched in 2012 as a joint initiative by SAMSoc (the Small Animal Medicine Society) and the BSAVA; this was updated and expanded in 2018 when BSAVA and SAMSoc developed an updated ‘PROTECT ME’ poster and online supporting information which is freely available to the veterinary profession. The poster, online supporting information and ‘no antibiotic required’ form were updated in 2023. The appendices in this supporting guide are designed to be used in conjunction with the poster.
BSAVA, SAMSoc and the Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund (RWA&F) have also produced a Guide to Responsible Use of Antibiotics in Rabbits and an associated PROTECT ME poster.
A PDF of the PROTECT ME poster is available with the PROTECT ME chapter and BSAVA members can request printed copies for their practice. A form to support client communication where no antibiotic is required has also been developed. Printed PROTECT ME posters and ‘non prescription‘ pads are available from the BSAVA store.

BSAVA/VPIS Guide to Common Canine and Feline Poisons
This book presents thumbnail sketches of pertinent information relating to poisoning of small animal pets by commonly encountered substances, plants and other items. For each agent, information is given on toxicology, clinical effects, appropriate first aid and subsequent management and prognosis. This resource is designed as a triage tool to enable veterinary surgeons and their staff to give appropriate guidance to clients that suspect their animals may have been poisoned. The level of urgency is indicated in each case. Please note that the poisons entries are not intended to provide comprehensive advice about the management of any case and should not be the sole information resource used to manage a poisoning case.
Please note this is an online-only product and content cannot be downloaded.
