Abstract
Noise sensitivity is a commonly reported behavioural problem in dogs. It is occasionally reported in cats, though this should not be taken to mean that it is uncommon in cats since they tend not to display behaviours that are problematic to owners. This chapter covers behavioural functions and neurophysiology of the auditory system, sound characteristics, acquisition or development of fears, internal factors, diagnosis, treatment strategies, other important information for owners, prognosis, prevention.
