Abstract
Coughing is a protective reflex arising due to stimulation of mechanoreceptors or chemoreceptors within the airways. This chapters covers the following: initial approach, diagnostic approach, empirical treatment and when to consider referral. Quick reference guide: Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL).
