The benefits of evaluating veterinary patients before general anaesthesia are often underestimated and with recent advances in veterinary science, the veterinary surgeon (veterinarian) will routinely anaesthetize older and sicker patients. This chapter deals with the physical status of the patient, patient assessment and preparation for anaesthesia.
