Veterinary professionals have a key role in public health as they operate at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health—the "One Health" interface. With many human infectious diseases being zoonotic, disease surveillance and prevention are critical for global health security. Responsible prescribing of antibiotics is essential to slowing the global crisis of antibiotic resistance. Competence in this domain ensures that practitioners meet their societal obligations, protecting not just the individual animal, but the health of the owner and the wider community.
